This is going round the right wing misinformationsphere: President Obama's decision to send forces into Pakistan without notifying the Pakistani government is a surprise since he never indicated that he would take such decisive steps in the past. Do they just not pay attention or must they lie at every turn? In fact, then-candidate Obama raised quite a stir, a lot of it coming from the same right wing freakosphere, when he declared even back into 2007 that, if he were president, he would not hesitate to send troops into any country where intelligence indicated bin Laden could be found and captured or killed. He repeated this several times during the campaign. They criticized this statement then as indicating Mr. Obama's foreign policy callowness. Now they behave as if the hard realities of governing had altered the President's thinking. This seems to be an effort for them to somehow try to claim vicarious credit for the raid on bin Laden's compound and to retroactively try to give as much credit to Bush for this as possible, to the point of almost making it sound like President Obama was just a bit player in the action. The scuminess of the right wing is far too well established to even have to catalog at this point in our history. But it is well to keep pointing it out when it does happen, and happen it will, time and again. Like rats, the right wing will always be here.
